"Lawson Tillman" Be a part of this incredible new play from our youth theatre. "Lawson Tillman," the playwright, is based off the book "Lawson Tillman of Brown Mountain" by Bobby Simmons. The setting takes place from the late 50s to the mid 70s, and focuses on protagonist Lawson Tillman as he struggles to gain his identity, while dealing with the everyday stress of poverty.
Lawson's family sharecrops in North Carolina to make ends meet. Lawson's mother, Ethan, is the glue that holds the family together, while her husband, Nathan Tillman, is constantly tearing the family apart. Yet Lawson finds peace from his inner and outer struggles from his mother's love. As we travel with Lawson from childhood to his teenage years, his triumphant spirit emerges strong and he is able to overcome his hostile environment.
